The Bath Children’s Novel invites entries from children’s novelists of any nationality or perspective. All genres of chapter, middle grade and young adult novels are eligible – from funny to dark, fashionable to forever, fantastic to futuristic.The Bath Children’s Novel Award is a prize for unpublished and self-published novelists.
The Bath Novel Award is an annual £2,000 prize for prize for unpublished and self-published or independently published novelists in any genre written for adult or young adult (13+) readers. The award is open to writers of any nationality, genre and perspective and has a strong track record in helping emerging writers to further their writing careers. 2019 dates to be confirmed.
Varuna, the National Writers House invites writers living in New South Wales and the greater Sydney area to apply for a two-week residency at this historic home in the Blue Mountains. Residency dates for 2017 are 11-24 September. For full details of the program and to apply, see the website.
The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is an opportunity for any young poet aged 11-17 to accelerate their writing career. Poems can be of any length and on any subject, but must be original and unpublished.
This contest is for haibun of 7-35 lines, with at least haiku included. Three entries are allowed. Please note: postal country is Japan. The award for the Grand Prix remains the same – a fine, full-size replica of a Hokusai ukiyo-e print – and smaller gifts will be sent to the An (Cottage) Prize-winners. The writers of all the decorated works will receive a certificate of merit.
The Grace Marion Wilson Emerging Writers Competition has helped identify a new generation of Victoria’s writers. The annual fiction and creative non-fiction prizes are open to writers with no more than three stories or articles published in a recognised book, magazine or journal. Open to residents of Victoria only.
The Hill End Artists-in-Residence program has grown into one of Australia’s most sought after residencies. The Residency Program allows contemporary Australian and international artists the chance to experience and respond to the historically charged landscape of Hill End. Applicants should provide a current CV, and writers should provide a copy of up to two manuscripts/publications/extracts.

The Miami University Novella Prize is awarded annually to a novella-length manuscript of original fiction (18,000–40,000 words). The winner receives $750 USD, a standard contract, publication and 10 copies of the book.
Each ABR Fellowship is worth $5000. Funded by ABR’s generous Patrons and by philanthropic foundations, the Fellowship program is intended to reward outstanding Australian writers and to advance the magazine’s commitment to critical debate and literary values. ABR will offer two or three such Fellowships each year.

The objectives of the Australian Bush Poets Association is to foster and encourage the growth of Bush Poetry in Australia. By definition, Australian Bush Poetry is metred and rhymed poetry about Australia, Australians and/or the Australian way of life.
All entrants must reside in Australia. Young Writers Awards (YWA) for Prose and Poetry on open theme (Junior 600-800 words/200 lines; Senior 1,000-1,200 words/200 lines). All YWA entrants must reside, work, or go to school in the City of Boroondara. Confirm closing date, rules and prize money with organisers.
The Debut Dagger is open to anyone who has not yet had a novel published commercially. Send the opening chapter(s) – up to 3000 words – and a 500-1000 word synopsis of your proposed crime novel.

Awarded on the even biennial year for an original, unpublished manuscript which shows some aspect of Australian History or has some Australian Historical significance. Theme is ‘Life Writing’, defined as a work of biography, autobiography, memoir, monograph, bibliography. Word count: 10,000 to 25,000.
Calling all queer writers – Feast’s annual writing competition is now open. The theme this year is ‘Square’. Max. 1,500 words prose, 20 lines poetry. Entry fee $5 each entry.
Original and previously unpublished poems with a limit of two poems per poet. Names and addresses of poets must appear on cover sheet only, not on poems. The Gold Coast Writers’ Association (GCWA) encourages and supports writers from all genres, age groups and levels of writing to grow and excel in their craft. Guest speakers are invited from all genres of writing. Speakers are encouraged to share information about their writing life, discuss their techniques, and launch and sell their books. Manuscripts must be original works in English, not previously accepted for publication in Australia. Entries must not exceed 2,500 words. No email entries accepted. Only the story title, not the author’s name, is to appear on the manuscript. Include SSAE with entry for results. Accepting entries of stories and poems in three age groups: 10 years and under, 11-14 years and 15-18 years. Prizes awarded at an Awards Presentation and winning and short-listed entries published when funds are available.
Any form of humour will be accepted, in any style, but the content must be original and it has to make us smile. Anything from a limerick to a poem of 32 lines in length is accepted. The competition will be run quarterly; 31st March, 30th June, 30th September and 31st December.
