Association of publishing professionals, including editors, designers, illustrators, typesetters, proofreaders, desktop publishers and publishing consultants dedicated to excellence in publishing in Queensland. Seminars and workshops are held regularly.

Express Media is a non-profit arts and media organisation that presents media, writing and arts programs for young people. Express Media’s program includes spoken word events, publishing projects, workshops, seminars, exhibitions and other arts and media related activities. Publishes a quarterly magazine, Voiceworks, the premier national magazine for young writers. Contributions are accepted from artists under 25 years old, including prose, poetry, artwork, comics and cartoons.

A group offering support, encouragement and constructive criticism of writing. Writers of all genres, beginners and experienced welcome. General (assignment) meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month. Beforehand, writers are given reference material on a writing subject and an assignment. The Fellowship of Australian Writers has branches in every state. Membership is open to those interested in writing. The Western Australia branch is based at Tom Collins and Mattie Furphy Houses in Swanbourne, with branches in Esperance and Geraldton. Illustrators Australia (IA) is an association of illustrators formed in 1989 for the purpose of promoting illustration and the interests of artists Australia-wide. IA maintains a comprehensive online database of illustrators and members, and produces artists source books, workshops/seminars, newsletters and exhibitions.

Inklings is QUT’s writing, reading and poetry club all wrapped up into one fabric society! We hold monthly book clubs on the last Saturday of every month, regular writing workshops and we have the odd poetry slam every now and again too. The Katharine Susannah Prichard (KSP) Writers’ Centre was established in 1985 to promote and nurture West Australian writing and writers, and continue the memory of Katharine Susannah Prichard. The Centre achieves this by presenting a rich literary program each year that includes Writers In Residence (including international), workshops, writing groups, guest speakers, competitions and self contained writers’ retreat accommodation.

Legal deposit is a statutory provision that obliges publishers to deposit copies of their publications in libraries in the country in which they are published. Under the Copyright Act 1968 and various State Acts, a copy of any work published in Australia must be deposited with the National Library of Australia and the appropriate state library.
