Branch of Institute of Professional Editors Limited (IPEd). Association of publishing professionals, including editors, designers, illustrators, typesetters, proofreaders, desktop publishers and publishing consultants dedicated to excellence in publishing in Queensland. Seminars and workshops are held regularly.
Express Media is a non-profit arts and media organisation that presents media, writing and arts programs for young people. Express Media’s program includes spoken word events, publishing projects, workshops, seminars, exhibitions and other arts and media related activities. Publishes a quarterly magazine, Voiceworks, the premier national magazine for young writers. Contributions are accepted from artists under 25 years old, including prose, poetry, artwork, comics and cartoons.
A group offering support, encouragement and constructive criticism of writing. Writers of all genres, beginners and experienced welcome. General (assignment) meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month. Beforehand, writers are given reference material on a writing subject and an assignment. Novel and Short Story Critiquing meetings are held on the fourth Saturday of each month.
The Fellowship of Australian Writers has branches in every state. Membership is open to those interested in writing. The Western Australia branch is based at Tom Collins and Mattie Furphy Houses in Swanbourne, with branches in Esperance and Geraldton. Activities include a varied program of workshops, events, competitions and residencies for established and emerging writers.
The group holds workshops and also publishes an annual anthology. Members consist of a group of self-help writers and has published several books on poetry and short stories.
The group meets to hear readings of members work, and then provide critique. Also holds workshops on such topics as bookbinding, preparation of various forms of writing, how to use computer packages, etc.
What we do: Open discussions about current projects, accountability for setting and achieving writing goals, advice and constructive feedback, share resources and tools, help those suffering from writers block. All aspiring and professional writers welcome.

Illustrators Australia (IA) is an association of illustrators formed in 1989 for the purpose of promoting illustration and the interests of artists Australia-wide. IA maintains a comprehensive online database of illustrators and members, and produces artists source books, workshops/seminars, newsletters and exhibitions.
Inklings is QUT’s writing, reading and poetry club all wrapped up into one fabric society! We hold monthly book clubs on the last Saturday of every month, regular writing workshops and we have the odd poetry slam every now and again too. IP Australia is the Australian government agency responsible for administering intellectual property rights, such as patents, trademarks and registered designs.
Operated by Thorpe-Bowker, the ISBN Agency provides International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs) to publishers and distributes guidelines for their use. ISBNs are essential for books, whatever format they are published in. The Agency can also provide barcodes.
The Katharine Susannah Prichard (KSP) Writers’ Centre was established in 1985 to promote and nurture West Australian writing and writers, and continue the memory of Katharine Susannah Prichard. The Centre achieves this by presenting a rich literary program each year that includes Writers In Residence (including international), workshops, writing groups, guest speakers, competitions and self contained writers’ retreat accommodation.
The Kingaroy Writers Association was established in August 1994. Workshops consist of a theme set by the President which can be written as a short story, poem or play. All subjects related to writing are discussed, along with helpful critique of members’ work.
For lovers of good science fiction and/or fantasy. No writing experience required. Also runs a closed list service to which members send new work for peer critiquing, and discuss ideas and publishing opportunities. Meets on the second Sunday of each month 10.00am – 12.00pm.
La Boite is Australia’s longest continuously running theatre company, celebrating its 100th year of operation in 2025. Located within the Queensland University of Technology’s Kelvin Grove campus in Brisbane, La Boite is home to the iconic 400 seat Roundhouse Theatre, the country’s only purpose-built theatre in-the-round.
Legal deposit is a statutory provision that obliges publishers to deposit copies of their publications in libraries in the country in which they are published. Under the Copyright Act 1968 and various State Acts, a copy of any work published in Australia must be deposited with the National Library of Australia and the appropriate state library. Legal deposit extends not only to commercial publishers but also to private individuals, clubs, churches, societies and organisations.

We’ll be talking about the representation of LGBTQIA+ characters, writing about LGBTQIA+ characters and sharing writing of our own (if you feel up to it!). Overall, it is a place to be a creative in a space where you know everyone around you gets what being queer means, no need for explanations!
Due to the Cassowary Coast being such a spread out community the meetings take place in a cafe in the north of the region (Innisfail) and on alternate months a cafe in the south of the region (Mission Beach) so all members share travel distance. Our Group’s purpose is to support writers of any genre; we critique, share, workshop and enjoy each other’s work and get involved in community events.
We have a set assignment which is completed beforehand to be read out at the meeting. Our group inspires and mentors those writers wishing to complete a project and for this, we meet on the third Monday of the month. We welcome new and emerging writers from Macleay Island.
MTC is one of the major performing arts companies in Australia, and one of the largest theatre companies in the English-speaking world. Founded in 1953, MTC is also the oldest professional theatre company in Australia, and currently exists as a department of the University of Melbourne.
The core activity of the Melbourne Writers’ Theatre is script development, which is furthered by means of panel discussions, readings and workshopping of plays by professional directors and actors. Members are encouraged to submit their longer plays for our new, improved panel readings or alternatively to one of our expert dramaturges.

Its main activities include skills development and advising Guild members and other industry creatives on rates, contracts, and employment. It also offers credit arbitration, a registration service, and industry know-how.
