Collection and recording of photos books, periodicals and personal statements on the history of Italian migration to Victoria. The society also has a research library with books, periodicals, audio and video cassettes. Open to the public by appointment only. Access costs applicable.
Writing group for young writers who want to hone their craft. Meets every Thursday in term time at 4.00pm – 5.00pm (under 13s) and 5.00pm – 6.00pm (13-18s). Just bring along your imagination and some writing material and meet other young people who love to write.
Meets monthly, mostly at Belgrave Regional Library. Meetings focus on workshopping and celebrating members’ writing activities and achievements. Holds annual professional development workshops (open to invited participants) and writing retreats. Main aim is to support, motivate and celebrate each other’s writing aspirations. Legal deposit was reinstated in Western Australia under the Legal Deposit Act 2012. The Act covers print, audio-visual and digital material, including works published on the Internet. The Legal Deposit Regulations 2013 prescribe how the Act’s provisions operate. Regulations for the deposit of physical items came into effect on 1 January 2014. Further consultation to develop regulations for digital legal deposit will be undertaken in 2014.
The Mackay Writers’ Group is a small writers’ group whose aim is to foster writing to all levels. The group meets on the fourth Monday of the month – meetings consist of a workshop and then the business part of the meeting. Membership includes a monthly newsletter.
Marion Writers offers critiques, encouragement and inspiration to all members. Each member emails up to 1500 words to all other members a week prior to each meeting, and at the meeting honest constructive criticism, written and oral, is exchanged to promote the development and enjoyment of creative writing, concepts and techniques. Member positions are limited. After each meeting we adjourn for lunch at the cafe in the centre.
The May Gibbs Children’s Literature Trust provides annual Creative Time Residential Fellowships for Australian children’s authors and illustrators in its studio apartments situated in Adelaide, Brisbane and Canberra.
The Media Resource Centre is a member of Screen Development Australia, a national network of organisations supporting the development of a strong, innovative and diverse screen industry in Australia. It provides entry-level to early-career film, video and digital media makers with access to equipment, subsidy programs and advice on all aspects of development and production. The related Mercury and Iris Cinemas provides local practitioners with the opportunity to screen their works.
The MEAA is the professional union that covers employees in the media, entertainment, sports, and art industries, advocating on issues like equity, workplace relations and standard pay rates.
Nambucca Valley Writers Group is a sub-committee of the Bowraville Arts Council. Meets on the fourth Saturday of the month at 2pm at Illawong Village. Membership numbers are limited. If interested, please send an email.
The New England Writers’ Centre is based in Armidale but serves the region by showcasing local authors, providing regular meetings, readings and events, and by bringing authors to the region. Situated in the Neighbourhood Centre (access via Cinders Lane carpark).

The New Zealand Book Council is a dynamic organisation with a wide range of activities and programmes designed to promote books and reading by bringing readers, writers, publishers, editors and schools together.
The New Zealand Electronic Poetry Centre (NZEPC) sets up an electronic gateway to poetry resources in Aotearoa/New Zealand and the Pacific region. Aims to coordinate existing archival information, and present some full-text electronic publication of poetry and commentary in consultation with authors and their publishers. NZEPC also promotes live poetry events and is committed to extending and documenting locations for poetry in the digital environment and its real-world counterpart.
The New Zealand Society of Authors (NZSA) represents the professional interests of New Zealand writers. As a PEN organisation, the NZSA works to improve writers’ conditions and provide a voice. NZSA runs awards and fellowships for members as well as a mentoring and assessment scheme. NZSA produces a weekly email newsletter, a monthly e-zine, a bimonthly journal and a range of professional development materials for writers.
Nielsen BookData collects title data for English language books from authors, publishers and distributors. This data supplies a range of bibliographic services enabling booksellers and libraries throughout the world to identify and source books for their customers and patrons.
Non-fiction writing covers a broad range, spanning from biographies, newspaper articles, ghostwriting, letters, anecdotes, speeches and historical writing. This group explores skills that include developing your ideas; writing commercially; writing for the internet, the children’s and youth markets; research and interviews; selling your work; editing, polishing promoting and marketing your writing; copyright and plagiarism; critiquing and creative non-fiction.
The objectives of the association are to promote the practice and methods of oral history, educate in the use of oral history methods, encourage discussion of all problems in oral history, foster the preservation of oral history records in Australia, and share information about oral history projects. Papercuts is Australia’s only national poetry program for schools. Aimed at Years 9-10 students of all abilities, it fosters the skills to read and write poetry. Papercuts brings contemporary poets to classroom workshops, and provides teachers with flexible units of activities modeled on Red Room’s public projects. Papercuts is provided free to schools.

Public Lending Right (PLR) is an Australian Government cultural program administered by the Office for the Arts. PLR makes payments to eligible Australian creators and publishers on the basis that income is lost from the availability of their books in public lending libraries. PLR also supports the enrichment of Australian culture by encouraging the growth and development of Australian writing and publishing.
The Publishers Association of New Zealand (PANZ) comprises many organisations associated with publishing in New Zealand, including book importers, distributors, local and international publishers, academic presses, and publishing consultants. PANZ was incorporated in 1978 and is managed by a council of nine publisher members.
The Red Room Company creates, promotes, and distributes poetry inspired projects to the public. Using alternatives to traditional poetry productions such as community radio broadcasts and poem installations in public spaces, they offer professional opportunities to Australian poets, with a focus on new and emerging poets.
The Rocky River ‘Riters meet twice a month for book discussions and prose and poetry writing exercises. Offers lively conversations and encouragement.
