Melbourne Poets Union (MPU) was born at Trades Hall in 1977 to promote poetry within the community. It focuses on providing a supportive and encouraging environment for members to read publicly and be inspired through excellent features at monthly meetings. MPU provides opportunities for development and education through its workshop program and newsletter (POAM), and hosts a major annual national poetry competition.
