The 2021 Hilarie Lindsay Young Writers Competition is a short story competition for Australian school students. Students from years K-12 are invited to enter their best short stories of up to 2,500 words to be in the running to win a cash prize. SECTION 1: Years 10, 11 & 12 Up to 2500 words Prize $150 SECTION 2: Years 7, 8 & 9 Up to 2500 words Prize $125 SECTION 3: Years 5 & 6 Up to 1500 words Prize $100 SECTION 4: Year 4 & under Up to 1500 words. Prize $50
The Jean Stone Award is given on the even biennial year for a poem or group of poems up to 60 lines. All entries must be unpublished, in English and typed. Check with organisers to confirm competition details.
The Marjorie Barnard Award is for a short story of no more than 3,000 words. Entrants are to be permanent residents of Australia and the work should be original, unpublished, not have won any previous competition at the time of entry, typed and double spaced on one side of A4 paper. Check with organisers to confirm details.
Awarded on the even biennial year for an original, unpublished manuscript which shows some aspect of Australian History or has some Australian Historical significance. Theme is ‘Life Writing’, defined as a work of biography, autobiography, memoir, monograph, bibliography. Word count: 10,000 to 25,000.
