The Australian Society of Travel Writers Incorporated (ASTW) is the most highly respected travel media body in Australia. Founded in 1975 and incorporated in 2011, it is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting ethical and honest travel, and the unbiased reporting of it.

The Bellingen Readers & Writers Festival is unique among Australian writers’ festivals in being situated in the magnificent natural environs of the Bellingen River and Dorrigo World Heritage rainforest. The program focuses exclusively on Australian writers to showcase the diversity of talent in this country.

Bendigo Writers Festival aims to provide a forum to meet and talk about books and writing, and, mostly, to enjoy the conviviality of a festival set in View Street, Bendigo.

The Bendigo Writers Council helps facilitate the literary talent that exists in central Victoria by bringing together writers, poets and performers to share their work. The Council holds workshops and poetry readings monthly at various venues around Bendigo. It publishes a monthly newsletter, ‘Muse News’, available for members, who also receive discounts to all workshops. New members welcome.

The Coffs Harbour Writers’ Group was established in 1986 for the purpose of creating an environment of support for aspiring writers. The group aims to promote writing in the Coffs Harbour area, to provide positive feedback and suggestions to members, improve members’ skills, and provide a portal of information on writing competitions and publishing opportunities.

Legal Deposit is required under the South Australian Libraries Act 1982 and Libraries Amendment Act. The Acts require that material published in South Australia be deposited 1 month after publication. Material includes a part, division or entirety of a book, newspapers, magazines, maps, charts, printed music, records, films, tapes, disks or other items made available to the public to store and facilitate reproduction of images or sound.

The Copper Triangle Writer’s Group is made up of around twenty friendly and diverse writers. New members are always welcome to the lively and entertaining meetings.

Varuna, the National Writers House invites writers living in New South Wales and the greater Sydney area to apply for a two-week residency at this historic home in the Blue Mountains. Residency dates for 2017 are 11-24 September. For full details of the program and to apply, see the website.

Perth International Arts Festival curates and presents an annual arts festival of the highest international quality. PIAF aspires to create new work and stimulate discourse about Western Australia and our place in a complex and political world. As a sub-strand of PIAF, the Perth Writers Festival aims to showcase and celebrate the written and spoken word. Participants include poets, novelists, social commentators, filmmakers, artists and musicians.

The Tasmanian Writers & Readers Festival, run biennially by the Tasmanian Writers Centre, unites writers and readers from across the state and Australia through masterclasses, discussion forums, spoken word events, children’s programs and more. The festival occupies various spaces throughout the historic Hadley’s Orient Hotel and encourages all members of the community to engage with their fellow readers and writers through the power of storytelling.
