IAD Press is the publishing arm of an Aboriginal-controlled educational institute: the Institute for Aboriginal Development (IAD). Specialisation: Aboriginal language materials, oral and natural history, bush foods, cross cultural titles and, under its Jukurrpa imprint, fiction, art and children’s books by Aboriginal authors plus art diaries and calendars.
Part of the Northern Territory Literary Awards. Entries open to original works of short fiction or a single poem by a person aged 12 to 18 years as of 1 January 2021 – up to three poetry entries per person with a 300-line limit or a short story up to 3000 words
Run workshops, festivals, competitions and other events. Offer mentorship and manuscript appraisal.
Corrugated Iron Youth Arts (CIYA) provides and facilitates quality performing arts experiences for Darwin’s young people. CIYA provides skills development workshops and performance opportunities across artforms for three to 26 year olds throughout the Darwin area. These opportunities involve theatre, circus, dance, design, digital media, music, video and writing. Formerly Brown’s Mart Community Arts, Darwin Community Arts is an organisation inspired and animated by artists and communities. Because of its strong community connection, it reflects the prolific, vibrant and multicultural nature of the Northern Territory. Darwin Community Arts initiates projects and responds to ideas and requests from the community.
A professional, regional theatre company established in 1959. In fifty years Darwin Theatre Company has grown from an amateur repertory group to a locally and nationally funded organisation with a reputation for commitment to local theatre development and producing high quality theatre productions.
The Katherine Region of Writers was established in 1991. With eight anthologies published, this non-profit community group meet monthly to share their writing, assist with manuscripts, old and new writing and encourage beginners and everyone in between to get their thoughts and ideas down. Everyone is welcome regardless of their genre or level of writing.
The Katherine Times is a weekly newspaper that covers the major towns in the Northern Territory, including Katherine, Darwin, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs and surrounding areas. The Katherine Times is also distributed to smaller townships, communities and cattle stations in the greater Katherine area.

Since 1998 the NT Writers’ Centre has presented the NT Writers’ Festival annually, alternating between Darwin (Wordstorm) and Alice Springs. With a thousand miles between locations, the festival shifts from the tropics to the desert, from wet to dry, from coastal to inland, from Larrakia to Arrernte country, creating a kind of contrasting tone or character between festivals which reflects something of the diversity – environmental, cultural and social – of the Northern Territory itself.
