Tropic Sun Theatre was founded by Jean-Pierre Voos in 1986. The main purpose of Tropic Sun was to offer senior students and graduates of the Performing Arts Course at JCU opportunities to present theatre at a professional standard and to meet a variety of critical audiences through touring. Established in 1990, the Gold Coast Writers is the longest running and largest writing organisation on the Gold Coast. GCWA presents monthly meetings with guest speakers, regular workshops and national writing competitions for adults and young writers. The Mackay Writers’ Group is a small writers’ group whose aim is to foster writing to all levels. The group meets on the fourth Monday of the month – meetings consist of a workshop and then the business part of the meeting. Membership includes a monthly newsletter.
