Yorke Peninsula Writers Group has produced three anthologies and two magazines. Having purchased the equipment to put their publications together themselves, the group are a keen do-it-yourself lot. All editing is done at meetings, which is the perfect learning experience for members to learn more about their craft. New members welcome. Members’ ages range from 19 to 87 years old. Meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at the Senior Citizens Rooms in Minlaton.

A non-profit group dedicated to the development of creative writing in all its forms and promoting local writers. Meetings are held monthly to critique work of members. Sometimes there is a guest speaker or workshop. Other writing-related events are held. Annual literary competitions are held and publication encouraged. Meetings held every fourth Saturday of the month, 1:30-4:30pm at Wyong Senior Citizens Centre in the grounds of Wyong Old Primary School.
Writers in Townsville Society Inc (WITS) is an eclectic, diverse and dynamic group that meets weekly to share and critique members’ work. WITS publishes anthologies of members’ work, networks with other writers’ groups, undertakes projects and enjoys outings and performances throughout the year. WITS has a strong community involvement. Young poets find encouragement to read their work in public at WITS’ Mid Year Poetry Reading. New members welcome.

Writer’s Edit is a young online literary magazine created for writers and readers. It is designed as a support for newcomers to the industry and publishes essays, writing prompts, author interviews and writing advice. Writer’s Edit takes submissions of essays, fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, and writing advice.
We are a women’s writing group meeting every Wednesday morning. We provide encouragement and inspiration to keep writing. Every year we produce an anthology and we go through the whole process of putting the book together, including editing, layout, book cover design and preparation for printing.

The World Nomads Travel Writing Scholarship gives three aspiring writers the opportunity to attend a travel writing workshop with a professional and widely-published travel writer (a different tutor each year). After completing the workshop, they will then put their writing skills to the test on a 10-day all-expenses-paid trip where they will document their adventures. This is a global opportunity. 2019 dates are to be confirmed.

A group of poets (most of whom are Christians) who meet on the second Saturday of every month (sans January) to critique and encourage each other. Also gives public readings. Poetica Christi Press, the publishing arm, has published 16 books, two tapes, two sets of greeting cards, bookmarks and a CD. Our aim is to publish Australian poetry with a Christian ethos to challenge, minister and encourage.

The Women’s Library focuses on writing by and about women. The library houses over 25,000 items. There is a comprehensive collection of lesbian literature and non-fiction focusing on issues and areas of interest to women. The library seeks to represent the diversity of Australian women’s writing. The Women’s Library hosts community meetings, groups and activities. Open Tuesday to Thursday 11am-3pm and Saturday and Sunday 12-4pm. There is also a $2 bookshop.
