Sisters in Crime (SINC) Australia grew out of a shared interest in women’s crime writing. Members are writers, publishers, students, academics and booksellers but most are enthusiastic readers and viewers of women’s crime on the page and screen. Discounts are offered at regular events as well as a 10% discount at selected bookshops. Its website features news, reviews, details of events and competitions and member-only sections for event reports and blogs.

The Society of Women Writers WA fosters creative and other writing and encourages members, women in particular, to be active and published writers. Monthly meetings include a guest speaker. The Society has one writers’ retreat per year, holds workshops, weekly creative writing classes and coordinates competitions. A monthly newsletter is circulated to members.

Writing group that believes writing should be fun, and everyone should enjoy the evening, whether reading or listening. From free-form poetry or bush verse, or autobiography or novel, the group can give constructive comments or assist with editing and publishing. Self-publishes an anthology of work submitted by its members each year. Meets Thursday night at 7.30pm for about two hours and provides a light supper.

VISION has members who write in a wide variety of sub-genres, including cyberpunk, high fantasy, gothic horror and magic realism. The group aims to polish writing skills, support each other with market news and reach publication standard. VISION meets the first Sunday of each month at the State Library of Queensland (except December and January) from 11am, everyone is welcome.

The National Library of Australia welcomes publishers producing works on physical media such as CD-ROMs to add their publications to the Library’s national collection of Australian heritage material. It is vitally important that these works are preserved for the benefit of future generations of Australians.

The Women’s Library focuses on writing by and about women. The library houses over 25,000 items. There is a comprehensive collection of lesbian literature and non-fiction focusing on issues and areas of interest to women. The library seeks to represent the diversity of Australian women’s writing. The Women’s Library hosts community meetings, groups and activities. Open Tuesday to Thursday 11am-3pm and Saturday and Sunday 12-4pm. There is also a $2 bookshop.

A group of poets (most of whom are Christians) who meet on the second Saturday of every month (sans January) to critique and encourage each other. Also gives public readings. Poetica Christi Press, the publishing arm, has published 16 books, two tapes, two sets of greeting cards, bookmarks and a CD. Our aim is to publish Australian poetry with a Christian ethos to challenge, minister and encourage.

We are a women’s writing group meeting every Wednesday morning. We provide encouragement and inspiration to keep writing. Every year we produce an anthology and we go through the whole process of putting the book together, including editing, layout, book cover design and preparation for printing.

Yorke Peninsula Writers Group has produced three anthologies and two magazines. Having purchased the equipment to put their publications together themselves, the group are a keen do-it-yourself lot. All editing is done at meetings, which is the perfect learning experience for members to learn more about their craft. New members welcome. Members’ ages range from 19 to 87 years old. Meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at the Senior Citizens Rooms in Minlaton.

Asia Pacific Writers & Translators Inc. (APWT) is an incorporated not for profit association that promotes literature from the dynamic and culturally diverse Asia Pacific region. APWT exists to support the careers of writers from the region. Membership is open to established authors and emerging writers, literary translators, literary agents, publishers, teachers and students of creative writing, and screen writers.
