Australian Plays Transform (APT) is Australia’s national play development, publication and licensing organisation. It hosts the world’s largest online showcase and searchable database of the best Australian playwriting. APT seeks new voices for new times, develops plays that change the national story, links them to production, publishes them, promotes them, and licenses them for future productions here and around the world.

The Australian Historical Association, founded in 1973, is a national organisation of historians, academics, professionals and others, working in all fields of history. Its members number around 600, including universities, libraries and other affiliates.

The Australian Bush Poets Association promotes bush poetry as an art form in the entertainment field, both in the spoken word form and as published verse. Publishes a monthly newsletter to keep members informed of coming events and past results, and encourages members to enter competitions, both written and performance.

Yorke Peninsula Writers Group has produced three anthologies and two magazines. Having purchased the equipment to put their publications together themselves, the group are a keen do-it-yourself lot. All editing is done at meetings, which is the perfect learning experience for members to learn more about their craft. New members welcome. Members’ ages range from 19 to 87 years old. Meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at the Senior Citizens Rooms in Minlaton.

A non-profit group dedicated to the development of creative writing in all its forms and promoting local writers. Meetings are held monthly to critique work of members. Sometimes there is a guest speaker or workshop. Other writing-related events are held. Annual literary competitions are held and publication encouraged. Writers in Townsville Society Inc (WITS) is an eclectic, diverse and dynamic group that meets weekly to share and critique members’ work. WITS publishes anthologies of members’ work, networks with other writers’ groups, undertakes projects and enjoys outings and performances throughout the year. WITS has a strong community involvement. Young poets find encouragement to read their work in public at WITS’ Mid Year Poetry Reading. New members welcome.

Offers group writing sessions, workshops, seminars and author readings; facilitates meetings for writers; and promotes books by local authors.

We are a women’s writing group meeting every Wednesday morning. We provide encouragement and inspiration to keep writing. Every year we produce an anthology and we go through the whole process of putting the book together, including editing, layout, book cover design and preparation for printing.

A group of poets (most of whom are Christians) who meet on the second Saturday of every month (sans January) to critique and encourage each other. Also gives public readings. Poetica Christi Press, the publishing arm, has published 16 books, two tapes, two sets of greeting cards, bookmarks and a CD. Our aim is to publish Australian poetry with a Christian ethos to challenge, minister and encourage.

The Women’s Library focuses on writing by and about women. The library houses over 25,000 items. There is a comprehensive collection of lesbian literature and non-fiction focusing on issues and areas of interest to women. The library seeks to represent the diversity of Australian women’s writing. The Women’s Library hosts community meetings, groups and activities. Open Tuesday to Thursday 11am-3pm and Saturday and Sunday 12-4pm. There is also a $2 bookshop.

Wollondilly FAW is a regional branch of the NSW FAW and meets on the second Sunday of every month. The group is very active, holding an annual literary competition and an annual poets picnic at Wirrimbirra Sanctuary.

The National Library of Australia welcomes publishers producing works on physical media such as CD-ROMs to add their publications to the Library’s national collection of Australian heritage material. It is vitally important that these works are preserved for the benefit of future generations of Australians.

VISION has members who write in a wide variety of sub-genres, including cyberpunk, high fantasy, gothic horror and magic realism. The group aims to polish writing skills, support each other with market news and reach publication standard. VISION meets the first Sunday of each month at the State Library of Queensland (except December and January) from 11am, everyone is welcome.

Vibewire is a non-profit organisation that supports emerging young writers. We publish poetry, fiction, opinion, reportage, photography, illustration or review under 1,000 words.

Writing group that believes writing should be fun, and everyone should enjoy the evening, whether reading or listening. From free-form poetry or bush verse, or autobiography or novel, the group can give constructive comments or assist with editing and publishing.
