We are an informal, open-ended group; we enjoy writing and sharing ideas about the process. All decisions pertaining to the group are made collaboratively. SWG’s aim is to be supportive and encouraging as we foster writing skills. Participation in the set monthly writing task is voluntary, although full participation is encouraged. Membership ranges from experienced, published writers to those just beginning their journey
Association of publishing professionals, including editors, designers, illustrators, typesetters, proofreaders, desktop publishers and publishing consultants dedicated to excellence in publishing in Queensland. It has around 250 members. All welcome to meetings on the first Wednesday of the month. Seminars and workshops are held regularly. A Directory of Editorial Services is available on the website.
We meet on the first Wednesday of the month at the School of Arts, and on the third Wednesday at the Botanic Gardens down by Murray Lagoon. We also run a poetry group on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, both times at the School of Arts. Both are open to new members.
We are a creative writing group for the vision impaired, or legally blind. We meet once a month and each meeting is a workshop, where everyone writes from prompts. Writers use laptops, Braille machines, or dictate to a sighted scribe. We produced a double CD set of stories and poems in 2009, which was narrated and broadcast on Radio4RPH.

Following in the footsteps of literary tradition, Storyfest is the writers’ festival for the Gold Coast, the cornerstone of which is its annual three day event held in March. Delivering a series of literary experiences along with workshops, masterclasses and featured authors throughout the year, Storyfest nurtures emerging writers and provides opportunities for readers and writers alike.
The Young Writers Award is an annual short story competition for Queensland residents aged 18 to 25 for stories up to 2,500 words, to encourages and support promising Queensland writers. The Young Writers Award is supported by Griffith Review and Queensland Writers Centre.
The Youth Literature Festival brings some of the finest writers and performers for young people to Queensland’s Sunshine Coast each year. It features writers’ panels, book-talks, storytelling, workshops and performance and aims to provide a diverse cultural experience for its regional participants.
Whitsunday Voices is the largest youth literature festival in regional Queensland. Held annually in July – this friendly festival hosts an intimate line up of Australian literary talent to inspire in students a love of books and writing.
