Our goal is to establish a children’s literature centre in Queensland where young people can interact with authors, illustrators and storytellers. We aim to engender a love of literature in Queensland children and young people through our projects and events. We run a support group for emerging writers and illustrators called Write Links, offer an annual mentorship and hold writing competitions for adutls and children.

The award honours Bruce Dawe and is for an original unpublished poem of not more than 50 lines. No theme.

The Bronze Swagman Award is Australia’s most prestigious award for written bush verse, running annually since 1972. Poems to be traditional Australian bush verse form with an Australian theme. Poems must not have previously won a first, second or third prize in any written competition prior to the announcemant of the winner.

Child Writes is a program which nurtures literacy and creativity. It gives children a voice by offering primary school aged children the opportunity to write and illustrate their own children’s picture books. These books are published by boutique publisher Boogie Books.

Established in 1990, the Gold Coast Writers is the longest running and largest writing organisation on the Gold Coast. GCWA presents monthly meetings with guest speakers, regular workshops and national writing competitions for adults and young writers. GCWA also has a number of support sub-groups, which provide support with more intimate hands on opportunities to share and critique members’ writing.

Asia Pacific Writers & Translators Inc. (APWT) is an incorporated not for profit association that promotes literature from the dynamic and culturally diverse Asia Pacific region. APWT exists to support the careers of writers from the region. Membership is open to established authors and emerging writers, literary translators, literary agents, publishers, teachers and students of creative writing, and screen writers.

Tropic Sun Theatre was founded by Jean-Pierre Voos in 1986. The main purpose of Tropic Sun was to offer senior students and graduates of the Performing Arts Course at JCU opportunities to present theatre at a professional standard and to meet a variety of critical audiences through touring. Writers in Townsville Society Inc (WITS) is an eclectic, diverse and dynamic group that meets weekly to share and critique members’ work. WITS publishes anthologies of members’ work, networks with other writers’ groups, undertakes projects and enjoys outings and performances throughout the year. WITS has a strong community involvement. The Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG) is the professional association for all performance writers, writers for television, screen, theatre, radio and multimedia.
