The Australian Poetry is a not-for-profit, national incorporated association established to promote reading, writing and publishing activities associated with Australian poetry in all of its forms.
The Australian Society of Authors (ASA) promotes and protects the professional interests of Australian literary creators. The ASA sets minimum recommended rates for authors and illustrators and provides information about minimum recommended terms for contracts for writers and illustrators.
If you are a western Sydney writer who identifies as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community then come join us. We’ll be talking about the representation of LGBTQIA+ characters, writing about LGBTQIA+ characters and sharing writing of our own (if you feel up to it!). Overall, it is a place to be a creative in a space where you know everyone around you gets what being queer means, no need for explanations!
Formed in 2011, Creative Kids Tales is an industry recognised site designed to assist Australian emerging and established children’s authors. The South Coast Writers Centre aims to support writers of all stages via its program of creative events and professional development, and to promote the South Coast’s emerging and established writers through the development of audiences. The Centre supports these aims through its literary events and workshop program. The Bendigo Writers Council helps facilitate the literary talent that exists in central Victoria by bringing together writers, poets and performers to share their work. The Council holds workshops and poetry readings monthly at various venues around Bendigo. It publishes a monthly newsletter, ‘Muse News’, available for members, who also receive discounts to all workshops. New members welcome.
The Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT) is the national association for the translating and interpreting profession. It offers contacts, networking, professional development, quality assurance, lectures and can also help find interpreters and translators.

Established in 1990, the Gold Coast Writers is the longest running and largest writing organisation on the Gold Coast. GCWA presents monthly meetings with guest speakers, regular workshops and national writing competitions for adults and young writers. GCWA also has a number of support sub-groups, which provide support with more intimate hands on opportunities to share and critique members’ writing.
Melbourne Poets Union (MPU) was born at Trades Hall in 1977 to promote poetry within the community. It focuses on providing a supportive and encouraging environment for members to read publicly and be inspired through excellent features at monthly meetings. MPU provides opportunities for development and education through its workshop program and newsletter (POAM), and hosts a major annual national poetry competition.
Formerly Sisters in Crime, NSW, this organisation also facilitates the Queen of Crime Awards. Meets six times per year at The Friend in Hand Hotel in Glebe. Membership includes subscription to newsletter.
The Australian Association of Writing Programs (AAWP) brings together writers, teachers, students, and editors. Membership is open to anyone with a professional involvement in the teaching of writing, primarily tertiary. The AAWP aims to represent the interests of creative writing teachers and students by providing a forum for discussion and publication. It runs conferences and publishes an online refereed journal, TEXT, containing critical articles, reviews, interviews and creative work.
A non-profit organisation for Australian and New Zealand writers of horror. Brings together professional and amateur writers, while improving the general understanding of what horror is in literature and exposing the genre to a wider audience. Offers support and mentoring programs, critiquing , writing and publication articles, the latest news, state of the market reports (including agents, magazines and publishing houses), magazine subscription discounts, information about competitions, anthologies and annual conferences.

Legal Deposit is required under the South Australian Libraries Act 1982 and Libraries Amendment Act. The Acts require that material published in South Australia be deposited 1 month after publication. Material includes a part, division or entirety of a book, newspapers, magazines, maps, charts, printed music, records, films, tapes, disks or other items made available to the public to store and facilitate reproduction of images or sound.
The Copper Triangle Writer’s Group is made up of around twenty friendly and diverse writers. New members are always welcome to the lively and entertaining meetings.

The Prepublication Data Service, formerly the Cataloguing in Publication (CiP) service, is a free service offered to publishers by the National Library of Australia. This service is for Australian publishers and self-publishing authors who want the details of their upcoming publications made available to Australian libraries, library suppliers, and other members of the book industry for acquisition purposes
Formed in 1996. Meets irregularly now. Members read each other’s work and give feedback and encouragement. Stages rehearsed readings and full performances of members’ scripts and has received funding from Arts ACT for dramaturgical support.
Asia Pacific Writers & Translators Inc. (APWT) is an incorporated not for profit association that promotes literature from the dynamic and culturally diverse Asia Pacific region. APWT exists to support the careers of writers from the region. Membership is open to established authors and emerging writers, literary translators, literary agents, publishers, teachers and students of creative writing, and screen writers.
Scripts must be submitted through a producer, production company or agent. In line with our charter, ABC Fiction aims to tell stories that contribute to a sense of national identity, that inform and entertain, and that reflect the nature of the Australian community.
